This wasn’t an easy decision for me as the life of being an athlete is truly one of excitement, challenge and privilege. Fortunately I wasn’t forced into retirement by injury and was able to choose the right time to go.
One of the greatest opportunities that has come from my athletic career is to go into schools and corporate environments as a speaker. I feel wonderful that by sharing my story and experiences, audiences are inspired to follow their dreams. My focus as a speaker is to help people identify their super powers, get their attitude right, set their goals and go for it.
The reward of this opportunity is two fold. First of all, I love the appreciation received from audiences! It is so special to me to be approached by someone who says “you came into my primary school years ago and I dreamed that I would one day go the Olympics and here I am”. Secondly, in terms of personal growth for MYSELF, reflecting on my past experiences, and achievements, and being able to express those lessons to others is very powerful. This is a win/win scenario and results in an outcome I want to see. This kind of win/win situation creates positive energy, sustainable relationships and helps you set up future decisions that will contribute to success.
I am looking forward to this next journey with Leanne, Greg and of course Miss Pixie to see where it takes us, what we learn and how we can make a difference in our beautiful corner of the world we call New Zealand.
